Bon Voyage! Three Techies Backpack Europe for the Semester
Bonjour from Metz,
France! We are Alexis, Miguel, and Jimmy - three civil engineering students
from Georgia Tech spending our spring semester abroad. When we aren't busy with
classes, we'll be backpacking across Europe and reviewing the latest gadgets and
apps for frequent travelers.
As this is our first blog
post, we want to introduce you to our mission here. Through first-hand
experience and plenty of photos, we'll provide tips, recommendations, and
stories to make your next trip smooth sailing, whether that's two weeks from
now or two years.
Over the next few months,
we'll traverse major hubs like Paris, as well as quainter destinations like
Bruges and Lucerne. From hole-in-the-wall brasseries to the best museum hacks,
we want to unveil the Europe only the locals know. We'll dish on everything
from transportation (Should you get a Eurail pass or stick to budget airlines?)
to accommodations (Hotel or rental apartment? Airbnb or VRBO?)
As engineers, we also
love our tech gadgets. We'll review the latest travel apps and gear like pocket
translators, VPNs for public WiFi, universal power adapters, e-readers,
lightweight laptops and more. You'll see what held up through the wear and tear
of hostels, trains, and rainy cobblestone streets.
Finally, as avid
photographers, stunning visuals will be at the heart of this blog. We want to
inspire serious wanderlust with architecture, landscape, and cultural images
you won't find in any guidebook. The colors of Burano, Italy; the canals of
Bruges, Belgium; the Matterhorn mountains - get ready for a feast for the eyes!
We hope you'll
vicariously adventure with us over the next few months. Whether you need tips
for your own Eurotrip or just want to daydream about foreign lands, stick
around as we dive into all the nitty gritty details of life on the road. Now if
you'll excuse us, we're off to pack our bags for an overnight train to Belgium!
Let the journey commence!
